...and it was a good one, mostly. Yesterday we got freezing rain and today the side roads were still pretty bad, so school was cancelled. Why you might wonder do we care if school is closed? Well, Monday mornings are Ian's speech days and if school is cancelled, the speech therapist doesn't come. So we were kind of bummed not to see her, but she'll be back next week.
Tonight Alison and I went on her hospital tour. There were 3 other families besides us and it was a "big group" for them. Due to infection control measures only staff is now allowed in the actual surgery rooms, but they have a small room set up with some extra equipment for the kids to see what it kind of looks like.
Alison got her 2 big questions answered. 1. How do they keep her throat from bleeding after the cut it? disolvable stitches and most importantly 2. What do they do about kids waking up without their parents? Luckily the nurse told her that for kids they do not keep them in recovery for an hour like adults. She said that Alison will be assigned a nurse that will never leave her side and that as soon as she starts to wake up even a little they will call us into a post surgery room and bring her in right away so that when she wakes up, we will be right there. They also said that she'll probably nap on and off for about 4 hours before she'll be ready to go home, so we are in for a long day.
Thankfully Ian will be with grandma and grandpa since he wouldn't be allowed at the hospital (and I wouldn't want to try to keep him happy that long in that kind of environment either.) It sounds like we might be in for a very early and long day. I have to call tomorrow to see when her surgery is scheduled and we'll have to be there 2hrs before that.
